Hello everyone! Welcome to the first assignment this year!
February's theme is "Line". Line is the most basic design element. This means that line is one of the most important things to consider when constructing a composition for any style of art. It "can be considered in two ways. The linear marks made with a pen or brush or the edge created when two shapes meet." (www.johnlovett.com/test.htm) In other words, a "line" can be present without actually using what we traditionally call a line.
Lines can:
-convey emotion
-control the viewer's attention
-create a sense of motion
Another definition is: "Line - is a mark on a surface that describes a shape or outline. It can create texture and can be thick and thin. Types of line can include actual, implied, vertical, horizontal, diagonal and contour lines. " (www.incredibleart.org/files/el…)
The Main Assignment is to make a work of art that conveys an emotion. This can be in any style or method, as long as it mainly relies on line use. In the artist comments, you must state what emotion it shows and a link to this journal.
Here are some tutorials to help you get started:

The Alternate Assignment is to draw a still life, animal, landscape, or figurative study using only gestural lines.
Gesture lines are basically quick "scribbles" that capture the sense of motion or the shape of an object. These are devoid of detail, but help the artist prepare for larger works of art.
This assignment can be in any style and media, as long as it relies entirely on gestural lines. Please link to this journal in the artists comments.

Quick Announcements!
Gooooood morning, fellow artists!
Firstly, I want to apologize for the lack of a Monthly Assignment last month.
Being in college, my thesis has been taking up a lot of time, and I haven't been able to make a post about our assignment. As for December, worry, not! We'll be posting the December assignment hopefully within the week, and we'll include some extra goodies to make up for last month.
Thank you all for continuing to add to this group, and I hope that soon we can close out another good year of growth!

Monthly Assignment: OCTOBER
Happy SPOOKtober!
This month's theme is using unconventional mediums.
Some artists currently use strange materials- like bubblegum or legos- to make highly original art.
While using such materials doesn't appeal to everyone, learning how to use them can help improve your ability to creatively overcome any obstacles in art.
This month's only assignment is to make art using any non-conventional "medium".
You CANNOT use:
Painting media (water color, acrylic, oils, etc)
Drawing media (graphite, colored pencils, pastels, art chalk, etc)
Digital media (painting, modeling, collage/photomanipulation)
You CAN use anything else. Be creative, and
Monthly Assignment: September
How crazy is it? It's another new month, and we're nearing the end of another year soon! So, now it's time for a new Monthly Theme!
This month's theme is Design!
Design is the way in which the various elements of your artwork are put together-- and this is one of the most important aspects of art making! The way that you arrange the elements of art (such as Line, Texture, Shape, Form, Value, etc.) and the way you utilize them, can greatly affect the way the audience reads it. You can have two works of art, both with the exact same elements of art (i.e. the same shapes, the same textures, the same number of lines, the same colors), but one w
Monthly Assignment: August
This month's theme is texture!
Lucy Lamp of sophia.org explains texture very well. She says;
"Texture is defined as the tactile quality of the surface of an object--how it feels if touched. But it is so much more than that....
Touch is one of our senses. Our hands and skin are equipped with sensitive nerves that distinguish texture. In addition to giving us information about the world around us, our sense of touch gives us pleasure. We find sensual joy in the tactile experience of different surfaces. It is an essential aspect of visual art for the same reason.
Visual art can inspire, provoke, make us think, make us laugh, make us cry, ma
